Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data this website collects, why, and what your rights are. I've tried to keep it short and plain.
Who I am
The data controller is Thorpe Contracting Ltd, trading as Chris Codes Stuff, a company registered in England & Wales. You can contact me at chris@chriscodesstuff.com.
What I collect and why
| What | Why | Legal basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contact form: your name, email, and what you write (including anything you paste in) | To reply to you, assess whether I can help, and send you a quote or do the work | Legitimate interests (answering the enquiry you sent) and, if you become a client, performing a contract | 24 months from your message, then deleted. Client records are kept as long as needed for the work and for legal and accounting duties. |
| Newsletter: your email address, and the times you signed up and confirmed | To send you the weekly newsletter | Consent: you enter your address and then confirm it by clicking a link in an email | Until you unsubscribe. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days. After you unsubscribe I keep your address on a suppression list, marked as unsubscribed, so I never email you again by mistake. |
| Email you send me directly | To reply and keep a record of the conversation | Legitimate interests / contract | As for the contact form |
Please don't put passwords, API keys or other credentials in the contact form or in an email. I will never ask for them that way.
I don't use analytics, advertising trackers or cookies on this site.
Who handles your data for me
- Amazon Web Services hosts the website, stores form submissions and newsletter subscribers (London region), and sends the emails the site generates.
- Cloudflare runs the domain's DNS.
- Fastmail hosts my email inbox, where enquiries arrive.
- Google Fonts: the site loads its fonts from Google, so your IP address is sent to Google when you load a page.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, it is under the safeguards required by UK data protection law. I don't sell your data or share it with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask me for a copy of your data, to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, or move it to another service. Where I rely on consent (the newsletter) you can withdraw it at any time; every email has an unsubscribe link. Email chris@chriscodesstuff.com and I'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Security
Data is stored encrypted in AWS and access is limited to me. No system is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect what you give me.
Changes
If I change this policy I'll update the date at the top. Material changes to how I use newsletter data will be emailed to subscribers.
